Madrid – Anisha’s Hen Do

I can’t believe one of my best friends is getting married. It’s really starting to make me feel old now but I’m so excited for what the future holds and excited for her wedding day!

So the wedding is still a couple of months away so before that we obviously had to have a hen do. It was all decided and planned to go abroad and we chose Madrid! Majority of us hadn’t been there before so would be a new place to go and explore.

Don’t forget to checkout the vlog on the trip here.

The Apartment

We booked an apartment in Gran Via which is right in the centre of the main strip so we had lots of restaurants, bars etc around us to keep us going for the weekend. The apartment was booked through which you can find here. It is a 5 bed flat with 2 bathrooms, fully furnished and full equipped kitchen if you planned to do any cooking. There was only 7 of us in the apartment so plenty of room for everyone to spread out and be comfortable.

Our hen party goody bags and its contents!

Friday Night

That evening, we had booked a Madrid Spanish Experience where we got to enjoy delicious tapas at two different venues before watching the art of a flamenco show. It was a walking tour as we had to walk to each destination which we later found out (a bit too late) so we weren’t exactly dressed appropriately but we made the most of it and it was a really good night.

Being a vegetarian for some in Madrid was very hard work!

The next day we went exploring for someone to have a nice brunch and gain some energy for the day. We found this lovely little Cafe called Market Cafe

There is such a wide selection of food that everyone managed to find something that they liked and could eat. We ordered paella, patatas bravas, omelette and of course a large jug of sangria!

As if the food we had wasn’t enough, we managed to find a Haagen Dazs cafe where we had the most amazing desserts with crepes/brownie with ice-cream. Sometimes treat yourself!

Saturday Night

Later that evening, we had arranged to go out for dinner. We wanted to choose something that was close to the activity that we had planned for that evening so ended up going to Taste of India.

The food was really good and so filling, which was just what we needed before our next event…

After dinner, we had booked a cocktail making class at En babia Bar. We didn’t really know what to expect as we had never done anything like this before or heard of the bar but it turns out it was just what we were after.

We learnt how to make just your typical mixer drink, then a cocktail from the menu and then a couple of shots. The bar has other clubs that they are associated with on the strip so they offered us a wristband for €12 which entitled us to free entry to these bars/clubs, two drinks and a shot.

Sunday was our chill and relax day. After getting some lunch at TGI’s we then went to go tick off a few tourist spots on our list. First up was the royal palace of Madrid. It was such a beautiful building and the grounds looked amazing as well. The sun had made an appearance that day so that was another highlight.

A short walk away was the Temple of Debod. This looked amazing on google and especially at night time when the spot lights come on but we didn’t want to hang around all day for them so once we took our pics we then moved on.

To end the evening out, we went to ME Radio rooftop bar. This looked amazing and it was really hard to find a table big enough for all of us to sit down as there isn’t much seating area but once we did we ordered a jug of sangria and the last bit of sunshine before the sun went back in.

Later in the flat we played your typical hen games and relaxed watching a film (you can see all of this on the vlog).

Our last day and few hours in Madrid. We had to leave the apartment so we took as many selfies as we could before we and to return the keys and leave.

Before heading back to the airport, we found a restaurant called Ginger that had some really nice food. We all ordered different dishes but of course we had to end our last day with another jug of Sangria!

It was an amazing extended weekend away with the girls and I’m happy that I got to experience Madrid so much in such a short period of time. Now bring on the wedding!
