New York City

*UPDATED: 24/04/18

On my last trip to Philadelphia, I had a four day trip which was enough day to go to New York and spend the day. I have been to New York before many years ago but I was younger and couldn’t remember everything so I thought it would be nice to go back and create some new, fresh memories.

The transport (Megabus) from Philadelphia to New York was at 7am and took us around 2 hours to reach. Our return transfer wasn’t until 9pm so we had the whole day to explore. Our first stop was Times Square, the well known theatre district with towering digital billboards.

Next up we walked over to the Rockefeller Center where we went up to the Top Of the Rock observation deck. The last time I was in New York, I went to the top of the Empire State Building so it was nice to see it from a different perspective and have a view of it in the background.

After popping into various shops along the way, we made our way to Grand Central Station. It’s strange to think that myself and other tourist would come all the way to New York to visit a train station but understandably it does live up to it’s name. For those that have watched gossip girl would know that this station was in an iconic scene in the first episode.

When in New York it is customary to have a typical pizza slice that they are very well known for. There’s so many choices to choose from but we decided to try out a small restaurant called Radio City Pizza. They had such great selections of flavours and meal deals that you won’t be short of choice.

We then got the subway to downtown Manhattan to see the Brooklyn bridge and walk across it to the other side. The view of manhattan are amazing from the bridge but be prepared for that walk across the bridge, it feels like it goes on forever but it’s worth it when you get to the other side.

On the other side in Brooklyn, you get away from the hustle and bustle of Manhattan and life feels a bit tamer on this side. There are some wonderful spots to get some great pictures, especially of the Manhattan bridge in the background.

Another great spot in Brooklyn is the area Dumbo, it has some great restaurants, bars and exhibitions to try out depending on what you are in to. We ended up at a lovely bar/restaurant called Sugarcane and got there just in time for happy hour which is always a plus!

After we had regained our strength at the bar, we then walked back over the bridge and towards Ground Zero memorial site. The last time I was in New York, this memorial had not yet been completed so it was an surreal experience getting to view the finished piece. It is so peaceful in this area that it would almost make you forget while it was built in the first place. A must see if ever in New York.

To end the day, we went to Planet Hollywood near Times Square. The food there is like your typical american diner with burgers, ribs etc and great cocktails too! We were there for so long that before we knew it, it was time to make our way to the pick up point to get our transfer back to Philadelphia.

Thank you New York for some wonderful new memories and experiences, I will be happy to see you again soon!
